How Strong Are You for Your Bodyweight?
Bodyweight changes how a lift should be interpreted. A 225 lb bench press means something different at 140 lb bodyweight than it does at 240 lb. This strength standards calculator uses bodyweight bands so the comparison is more useful.
How the Calculator Works
Choose a unit, sex, lift, bodyweight, weight lifted, and reps. Bazu estimates your 1RM with the Epley formula, finds the closest OpenPowerlifting-derived bodyweight band, interpolates between percentile thresholds, and returns a rounded result.
What Strength Levels Mean
Beginner, novice, intermediate, advanced, elite, and world class are mapped to percentile ranges. The label is a quick summary of where your estimate lands in the selected competitive dataset.
Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift, and Total Standards
The standards table shows p20, p40, p60, p80, p95, and p99 thresholds for squat, bench press, deadlift, and total in your bodyweight range. The data comes from raw full-power meet results, meaning the same competition includes all three lifts. Total mode uses known totals only for this version.
Why Percentiles Are Estimates
The source data comes from competitive results, and 1RM estimates depend on effort, technique, fatigue, and rep range. Treat the percentile as a useful benchmark, not a fixed identity or prediction.
How to Get Stronger Over Time
Use the next milestone as a target, then build toward it with consistent training, appropriate volume, enough recovery, and progressive overload. Small improvements compound when your plan keeps moving.
Track Your Strength Progress in Bazu
Bazu tracks PRs, workout history, estimated 1RM, and progressive overload targets so you can see whether your numbers are moving in the right direction across weeks and months.
FAQ
What is a strength standards calculator?
A strength standards calculator compares a lift or total against aggregate competitive lifting results for similar bodyweight and sex ranges. Bazu uses OpenPowerlifting-derived raw full-power percentile tables.
How do I know if my bench press is good?
Enter your sex, bodyweight, bench press weight, and reps. The calculator estimates your 1RM and compares it with similar competitive lifters in this dataset.
What is a good squat for my bodyweight?
A good squat depends on sex, bodyweight, training age, range of motion, and competition standards. This tool shows percentile-backed squat standards for your selected bodyweight range.
What is a good deadlift for my bodyweight?
A good deadlift depends on your bodyweight and training context. The calculator estimates your deadlift percentile against raw full-power competitive results in a similar bodyweight range.
How accurate is an estimated 1RM?
Estimated 1RM is useful for planning, but it is not exact. Sets of 1-10 hard reps are usually more useful than high-rep estimates because fatigue and conditioning affect the result.
Are strength percentiles based on the general population or competitive lifters?
They are based on similar competitive lifters in this dataset, not the general population. Competition data is stricter than casual gym lifting.
What does intermediate strength mean?
In this calculator, intermediate means your estimated result is around the 40th to 59th percentile for similar competitive lifters in the selected bodyweight range.
What does elite strength mean?
In this calculator, elite means your estimated result is around the 80th to 94th percentile for similar competitive lifters in the selected bodyweight range.
